Baguio Flower Festival in full bloom

Posted: Feb 18, 2004

Baguio City - Tourism Secretary Robert Dean Barbers, in collaboration with the organizers of the Baguio Flower Festival or Panagbenga 2004, called on all tourism establishments here to participate in the festivities by adorning their establishments and facilities with the colors of flowers in spring to bolster Baguio's claim as the country's 'flower capital'.

The project dubbed "Search for the Best Floral Decorated Tourism Establishment in Baguio City" with the theme "More Than the Usual, Let a Thousand Flowers Bloom," is being spearheaded by Department of Tourism - Cordillera Administrative Region (DOT-CAR) and the city government of Baguio.

Secretary Barbers said "The search was initiated in line with the continuing promotion of DOT'S "culture of tourism" campaign. I strongly supports the project. The City of Baguio stands as one of the country's most 'tourist-friendly destinations', where visitors get the 'Warmest Of Welcomes' any day of the year."

The new tourism chief revealed that the search has ten categories which include resorts, hotels, inns, pension houses, travel agencies, souvenir shops, restaurants, gas stations with restrooms, restrooms in malls, and restrooms in parks and public markets.

DOT-CAR director Purification Molintas said the judging will be based on the relevance of the decorations with the theme, overall impression, landscape and fresh flower decoration at the establishment's facade and/or lobby. For the restrooms category, the restrooms should be adorned with a floral decoration at its facade and interior.

Molintas announced that from February 18 to 28, an assessment team from DOT-CAR will conduct random unannounced visits to the participating tourism establishment. The winners of the search in each categories will be announced during the closing ceremonies on February 29. Prizes for the lucky winners are at stake. /Source: DOT - Office of Tourism Information
