(Sept 12). TWENTY ATHLETES participating in nine events comprise the Philippine team to the Sydney Olympics 2000.
A spokesman of the Philippine Olympic Committee now in Sydney told emanila.com that majority of the Philippine athletes arrived in Sydney last Sunday, September 10, and are now booked at the Olympic Village.
Except for the four taekwondo team members, expected to arrive tomorrow, the contingent is now complete. The boxing olympians as reported in exclusive feature stories in emanila.com are “the early birds” who flew in to Sydney as early as last May. (see EMANILA SPORTS)

Torch Relay in Sydney CBD
(Sept 11) The Torch is scheduled to enter the CBD about 5:30pm on Thursday, September 14, signalling the start of celebrations in the Olympic City.
In a journey expected to take about 2 hours and 10 minutes, the Torch relay will stretch from Central railway station to the Sydney Opera House before finishing at the steps of the Town Hall.
The route will pass a range of city landmarks including Chinatown, Hyde Park, the Domain, the Royal Botanic Gardens and Circular Quay. The biggest viewing areas are likely to be in the Domain, George Street near Circular Quay and Town Hall.
An additional 300,000 people are epected to come into Sydney City for the event.
The full route will be: Oxford St., Liverpool St., Castlereach St., the Light Rail ramps and Central station colonnade, Hay St., Dixon St., Goulburn St., George St., Park St., Elizabeth St., Hunter St., Macquarie St., Prince Albert Rd., Art Gallery Rd., Mrs Macquarie's Rd., the Farm Cove shore, the Sydney Opera House, Circular Quay East, Alfred St., and George St.
Philippine Olympic Nights
(Sept 7) The Philippine Consulate General, Sydney has organised Philippine Olympic Nights at the Philippine Entertainment Lounge / Tambayan every night, 7:30 to 10:30pm from September 17 -29 2000.
The Lounge is intended to be a meeting place for Filipinos in Australia, visiting kababayans, friends and Philippine Olympic fans.
The venue of the Lounge is the Top Floor of the Italian Village Restaurant located at No. 7 Circular Quay West, The Rocks.
Entertainers invited to the nightly Lounge include Chit Conway, Damayan Dance Group, Lillian de los Reyes, Cleo Diana, Archie Lubrin, Revibe All-Male Group, Charity Rinatacan, Madonna Salva-Hart, Waldo Velez & Himig Choral Group, and Dexter Villahermosa.
CityRail Olympic Timetable (Sept 3) A special timetable will operate across the CityRail network for the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. The timetable will run for 19 days: Wednesday 13 September (two days before the Opening Ceremony) to Sunday 1 October (Closing Ceremony). Passenger trips are expected to increase from about 14 million over a normal 19-day period to 34 million during the Games. Trains will operate 24 hours a day, with total services increasing from about 2,400 a day on weekends and 3,000 on weekdays to about 3,600 each day of the Olympic timetable. Willie Caballes, Manila Bulletin asst sports editor and Weekly Sports Digest sports editor, arrived in Sydney last Wednesday, Aug 30. He's here on a short visit to compare notes with ABAP president Manny Lopez on the pre-Olympic training of the Philippine boxing team. He will be meeting with other Philippine olympians before he enplanes back to Manila on Sept 10. More pictures... Welcome to the Olympic City (August 25). Now that the boxing team is back, the whole Phil. Olympic contingent is complete. Which then allows the Phil. Consul-General Libran Cabactulan to present the members of the contingent to the public. Presentation will take place on Sunday, Aug 27, at the Filipino Multi-Purpose Centre, Rooty Hill, from 3:00-5:00pm. (Note that the Phil. team members will be there for only two hours.) NSW State MP Paul Gibson will be there to welcome them to the Olympic City. The event is being organised by the Cabanella Boxing Brotherhood and the Multi-Purpose Centre.
