emanila and PCC of NSW support SOCOG's Athletes Family Host 2000 Program

Sydney. July 12. The Philippine Community Council of NSW and emanila.com have recently entered into a sponsorship arrangement with the Samsung Athletes Family Host 2000 for the promotion of the program in the Internet among Sydney-based Filipino-Australian residents.

Participants in the program can be either family hosts or host team leaders.

Participating family hosts will provide accommodation and breakfast for eight days to the families of athletes. Host team leaders will come from local community organisations, and will assist and support hosts as well as coordinate the allocation of guests to hosts.

The program is an officially accredited program of the Sydney Organising Committee for the Olympic Games (SOCOG). The Samsung Athletes Family 2000 is managed on behalf of SOCOG by Athletes' Family Host, Inc., an independent, unaffiliated and non-profit organisation.

SOCOG's Sassoon Grigorian, coordinator of the program, said that the
program "offers a unique opportunity to effectively participate in the Games, make new friends and experience an enriching cultural exchange" for volunteer family hosts. He further said: "As a host, you'll share first hand their joys and disappointments. You can't get much closer to the games than that!"

It will be recalled that a similar program was conducted during the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games where 2,200 guests were accommodated. For the Sydney Olympics, an estimated 4,500 guests are expected to be enrolled in the program.

SOCOG's estimate of the number of guests is based on confirmed expressions of interest from families of athletes from over 120 countries, including the Philippines.
