Congratulations to emanila on the launch of its website,
which will provide a range of on-line information to users interested in Philippine
related goods and trade.
The launch in June 1998 coincides with an event of great
importance to The Philippines and to Filipinos around the world - the centenary of
Philippine independence. It is an event that will be widely celebrated by the large
Philippine-born community in New South Wales.
Australia and the Philippines have a strong history of
mutual friendship and trade. Many Philippine-born people have made their home in
Australia, and in particular, New South Wales where they form one of the newest and
fastest growing migrant groups in the state. The hard work and skills of
Filipino-Australians have contributed greatly to our state's cultural and economic
development.
The launch of emanila reflects the continuing growth of the
worldwide web - a vast resource that sees computer technology linking people, ideas and
information on a global level. Web sites such as this provide members of our culturally
diverse society with the opportunity to establish contact with the global community. It
breaks down geographic barriers between communities and between service providers and
consumers.
On behalf of the New South Wales Government I extend best
wishes to emanila on its launch and every success with the venture.
